Western Regional Minister Hon Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah has assured resident of Tarkwa that their roads will be constructed to meet the standards of Johannesburg.
The Government has received lots of backlash over the years following the poor state of the Takoradi- Tarkwa road; Hon Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah gave some words of hope to resident of Western Region this morning when he was speaking with Osikani Frimpong Manso on Spice 91.9 FM’s Adzekye Mu Ns3m.
“At the last cabinet retreat, President was very clear that we will do a project called the Johannesburg Project for Tarkwa town roads, we believe that Tarkwa should be the next Johannesburg of West Africa because it’s a mining town and for a very long time all these mining towns have turned into shanty towns, so we needed to set a process in place to make sure that at least for once we won’t let the towns which provide us with mineral recourses be poor areas. My first official duty as a regional minister was a town hall meeting in Tarkwa; their roads came up and I asked them if we can do something different, they rose how South African has developed, so we agreed to do something similar.
“I recommended the issue to cabinet at our first cabinet meetings for them to look into it. I raised it again at our second meeting at Peduase and the President directed that 100 million dollars worth of roads to be constructed in that enclave in collaboration with the mining companies” he said on Spice 91.9 FM.
Explaining how the project will be funded, the Member of Parliament for Takoradi said that his Government will work in collaboration with the mining companies in Tarkwa to roll it.
“The mining companies will be constructing the roads and as they construct the roads, the cooperate taxes and royalties they pay will be used to cover for the coast because the money is for the Government, we want to make sure that everybody is contributing to the development of the town and the mining companies are so happy”.
