A Cement manufacturing company, Western Diamond Cement Limited in the Ahanta West Municipality of the western region of Ghana has fulfilled one of its social responsibilities by giving a face lift to the surface of a 2 kilometer deplorable stretch of road within Apowa community to be motorable for road users who ply from Takoradi through Apowa to Agona Nkwanta and Tarkwa.
The Commercial and Private vehicle drivers that ply on the deplorable road for decades have expressed their dissatisfaction following deep potholes on the road.
Western Diamond Cement Limited with its own company equipment and road construction machines spent about 4 hours to make the Apowa deplorable potholes motorable for drivers.
According to the Assembly Member for Apowa Electoral Area, Hon. Nicholas Nyarko several promises by the western regional minister that the stretch will see a face lift have proved unfulfilled.
He has therefore urged the regional minister who doubles as Member of Parliament for Takoradi Constituency, Hon Kwamena Okyere-Darko Mensah to be proactive in ushering the MMDA’s to use part of the Internal Generated or Common Funds to rehabilitate the deplorable roads in the western region.
The Assembly Member hinted that about 80% of resources carried by heavy duty vehicles ply on the the Apowa road to Takoradi Ghana Port and Habour’s Authority to be exported to other neighbouring countries and beyond.
Hon. Nyarko on behalf of Apowa community residents appreciated the efforts of Western Diamond Cement for fulfilling its social responsibilities in helping communities in the Ahanta West.
