One hundred landlords and ladies in the Sekondi – Takoradi Metropolis will be assisted by STMA to get toilets facilities in their homes.
The Sekondi – Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly will pay 50 percent of the cost while beneficiary property owners also pay the remaining 50 percent.
This is among measures the assembly has adopted to end open defecation in the Metropolis.
The assembly has also secured the services of five waste management companies to tackle waste in the metropolis.
As a result the metropolis has been divided into five zones to facilitate smooth operation of the exercise.
The zones are Sekondi, Essikadu – Ketan, Effia, Kwesimentsim and Takoradi.
For each zone the assembly has contracted one company to undertake the exercise.
Already the five companies have been selected for the project to start on January 1, 2018.
“The companies are Messers Waste 360 and Environmental Services Limited for Sekondi, Messers Delovely Limited for Essikadu – Ketan, Messers Vermark Environmental Services for Kwesimentsim, Messers Rosavin Management Limited for Effia and Messers Zoomlion Ghana Limited for Takoradi”.
“The companies are to start registering households for bins and door to door operations. Households who fail to register for the bins will have the assembly’s by-laws to deal with”.
Sekondi – Takoradi Mayor, Anthony K.K Sam warned.
He added that, any contractor who fails to work to the satisfaction of the assembly will have the contract abrogated.
