St. Augustine’s College edge past Presec and St. Peter’s SHS to win 2019 NSMQ

St. Augustine’s College went past Presec and St. Peter’s SHS to win their second National Science and Maths Quiz on Thursday afternoon at the National Theatre.

Defending Champions, Presbyterian Boys were hoping to retain their title but St. Augustine’s College who won it 12 years ago proved to be much hungrier on the day.

In a charged atmosphere at the National Theatre, AUGUSCO started on a good note by leading the first round with 26 points.

End of round 1:

St. Augustine’s College: 26pts

Presec, Legon: 21pts

St. Peter’s SHS: 12pts

The 2007 Champions continued their dominance in the second round but this time stretching their lead by 8 points, leaving Presec boys and St. Peter’s SHS to do the chasing in the remaining rounds.

End of round 2:

St. Augustine’s College: 28pts

Presec, Legon: 20pts

St. Peter’s SHS: 11pts

Problem of the Day:

St. Augustine’s College: 1pt

St. Peter’s SHS: 1pt

Presec, Legon: 1pt

The final took a different twist in the fourth round as defending champions; Presec closed the point difference to two points to bring back hopes of retaining the title.

Presec, Legon: 34pts

St. Peter’s SHS: 25pts

St. Augustine’s College have ended their 12 years wait for a National Science and Maths Quiz trophy and won their second trophy in the competition which started in 1994.
