Government’s drive towards value addition to our raw material production is gathering some momentum, as bauxite will be refined before exporting.
With the initiative for bauxite mining, government is determined to establish two refineries in the country.
In an exclusive interview with Business Today, the member of Parliament for Shama constituents Ato Panford disclosed that consideration is being taken to establish one of these two refineries at Yabiw in the Shama District, to refine rich bauxite from Awawaso before exporting them.
“From conversations ongoing, there is a clear indication that Shama District will get one of the two bauxite refining plant to be sited here in the western region to facilitate the president vision of refining our bauxite before exporting them; and looking at all the things to consider before putting up the refinery at a particular place my District Shama stands out tall”.
Ato Panford however stated that the Assembly together with traditional authorities in the area have agreed to release some lands at Yabiw for the bauxite refinery project.
Meanwhile Business Today has learn that plans are underway for the construction of a Gas Tank Farm, at Ohiamagyin also in the Shama District to support the implementation of the Gas Recirculation program, as proffered by the National Petroleum Authority.
Sources close to the Petroleum Authority says that some investors have expressed interest in the project and thus traditional authorities in the district are also eager to release lands for the initiation of the project.
