Sekondi based second division side, Rail Stars player, Obed Appiah, has been adjudged the best player of the Betway Talents Search which was held in four regions.
The competition started when a team of coaches including, coach Eben and Stephen Appiah went to the Greater Accra region, Ashanti region, Eastern region and Western region to search for talented footballers who falls between the ages of 18 to 24.
Over 2,000 players had the opportunity and only 22 players were selected to the Lizzy Sports Complex for the final justify.
The 22 selected players played numerous friendlies notably, against the Ghana national U-17 team and Charity FC, after those friendlies, 18 year old Obed Appiah was chosen the best player from the 22 players.
“I want to thank Betway for giving me the opportunity to be part of this initiative and also want to thank the other coaches for a great deal of work done in the last seven weeks. To the players, I want you all to know that you are winners so go out there and make us proud”.
“I also want to use this platform to call on other companies to emulate Betway and help develop the talents we have in the country. We always talk about cocoa and gold as the country’s foremost sources of revenue but trust me football has the potential to bring us more money than cocoa and gold”, Appiah said.
Obed Appiah has earned a 6-month trial with Ghana Premier League side, Ashantigold SC – Daniel Amaning and Mukala Ahmed have been offered a 3-month and 1-month trial with the Obuasi based side for placing second and third respectively.
