NPP Begins Preparation to Elect Ghana’s First Female President

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party has charged Women in the party to work hard to aspire for higher positions in the New Patriotic Party since women are not only meant for first ladies but there can be first men.

The role of women in politics and public offices is one of the topical governance issues because of the perceived and acknowledged potential and contribution of women to governance processes.

According to John Boadu, women have played pivotal role in the success achieved by the party and the NPP National Women Conference is a testimony or symbol of growth in the role Women Play in the New Patriotic Party.

He added that the history of the New Patriotic Party shows numerous Women who have risen from the grass root to the high ranks of the party. For example the likes of Usular Owusu, Theresa Tegoe and Cecelia Dapah who provided relentless support for the Women’s wing, the first ever Chief of Staff of Ghana ,Hon Akosua Frema Osie Opare and First National Vice Chairman of the party, Rita Talata Asobayere are all indication of upward mobility for Women in the party.

Speaking on the impact of the Women’s Wing of the New patriotic party and their contribution to the fortunes of the party at the maiden edition of the New Patriotic Party’s National Women Conference 2019 at Sekondi College in the Western Region, the General Secretary of the New patriotic party charged women to come up with resolutions that will inform the party as to how and where to place women in decision making process of the party to Material the agenda for victory 2020 and beyond.

He also added that the NPP has produced more Women in Parliament than any other political party therefore he urged the participants to aim at high positions in the party.

“Very Soon we are going to see a woman rising out of all of you here to lead this party to continue what the men have done and it going to happen in our life time, the next time we come to our annual national delegate Conference for our Women which is going to be a yearly affair, we can count a number of women in very sensitive positions in other for us to push the agenda of Women to ensure that one day in this country we will have a Woman leading not only the New Patriotic Party but Ghana for prosperity”

The first lady of Republic Rebecca Akufo- Addo Ghana also urged party faithfuls to eschew apathy since that is one major element that can hinders the party’s victory agenda in 2020. She encouraged the women to be resolute to ensure the party wins the upcoming election instead of laying back because concerns that some haven’t received their fair share of benefit from party.

”It is better to be in power to fight for your fair share than to be in opposition” she said.

Fredy blay, Chairman of the NPP also Urged women to come together to help NPP agenda of retaining power since three years is not enough for the president to accomplish his grand plan.

Chief of Staffs, Hon Akosua Frema Osie Opare advised party faithfuls and Ghanaians to ensure that they work very hard toward returning the New Patriotic part to prevent the NDC from cancelling government flagship show such as the Free Senior High School and the Nation builders Corps.

The Women Wing of the Party awarded some distinct personalities of the party with plaques for their contributions to the Women wing of the party. They included , HE President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia, Elizerbert Kuffour, Former first Lady, National first Vice Chairman, Hon Madam Rita Asobayire, Hon Ursla Ofori, (Wednesday Women Club),Mary Gold Akuffo Addo , (Wednesday Women Club), Sammy Awuku(National Treasure), Hon Theresa Amele Tego
