Many traders plying their trade on the shoulders of the streets of Sefwi Bekwai in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western Region dread of losing their source of income after their shops were destroyed by the municipal authority during a massive demolition exercise that took place on Thursday, May 18th 2018.
Scores of temporal shops, Kiosks, toilet and bathhouses as well as homes for squatter were demolished during last Thursday’s demolishing exercise which was led by the Bibiani Municipal Assembly with support from armed policemen.
The affected people who are reported to have initially put up some level of resistance were eventually overpowered by the armed policemen to pave way for the assembly to carry out the demolishing exercise just to decongest the municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai, Alfred Amoah in an interview told Spice News Reporter Kwame Kontor Boateng, that the decongestion exercise was supported to have taking place on November, 2017. The assembly according to the MCE used that time to educate residents on the need to decongest the town and warn the affected victims to evacuate their structures before now but failed to do so.
“We warn all the people who have sighted temporal structures in access roads and other unauthorized areas to remove them but failed to adhere to the directive”.
