Marcos Rojo’s late minute strike sends Nigeria home

Goals from Lionel Messi and Marcos Rojo was enough for Argentina to knock Nigeria out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Nigeria needed just a draw to keep their World Cup dreams alive but lost to Argentina in their final group game.

Leo Messi broke away at speed in behind the Nigerian defence, with two brilliant touches and he powered the ball with his right foot into the top corner to give Argentina the lead in the 13th minutes

Nigeria won a corner after some miscommunication from Argentina’s centre-backs. Etebo stood over it and Nigeria were awarded a penaltyin the process. Mascherano was booked after the decision. He had his arms around a Nigerian player but didn’t really force him anywhere and he fell to the ground. VAR confirmed it was a penalty. Moses stood up and threw the Argentine Goalkeeper, Franco Armani to the wrong direction.

Central Defender for the Argentine national team, Marcos Rojo  scored the winner with some few minutes to end the game. He was in the strikers position as he finished on his right foot into the bottom corner. It was a stunning finish. The Argentine bench couldn’t hold their joy after the goal as they all run unto the pitch to join Marcos Rojo in celebrating the goal.

Argentina progressed and runners up to Croatia who also beat Iceland by 2-1. They will now play France in the round of 16.
