I will not pay salaries without validation- Controller and Accountant General

The Controller and Accountant General, Mr. Eugene Ofosuhene has cautioned MFO’s and DFO’s who operate contrary to the Public Financial Management Act (Act, 921) of working on their own and not under the Controller and Accountant General and that his office is not in the position to protect them if the law catch up with them.

Addressing a durbar of Western Regional staff of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department at Sekondi on Tuesday 22nd November 2018, Mr. Eugene Ofosuhene explained his office as the key agency for a sound a prudent management of the state funds has a responsibility towards protecting the public purse by ensuring prudest spending of the tax payer’s money and that his office will not be in the position to protect any staff of the Controller and Accountant General who work contrary to Act 921.



Outlining the success of the numerous reforms being rolled out in the public finance management sector to address payment issues, Mr. Ofosuhene mentioned that, times have changed and that without validation no one under controller and accountant general in this country will be paid any salary.

“Through this validation process, in August we stopped about 9000 names (staffs) who were not validated, we did not pay them. Before then we had met all the unions ie CLOSAC and the rest to inform them that until they do proper validation, we will not continue to pay people who we believe are not supposed to be on the pay roll. And in September we pegged another 7000“.

The Controller and Accountant General, Mr. Eugene Ofosuhene who is on a familiarization tour to the western region in the company of the Deputy Controller and Accountant General in charge of Finance and Administration, Mr. Sampson Asare Finakoh and the Assistant Controller and Accountant General in charge of Administration, Mr. Samuel Duedu, told spicefmonline.com that the tour is to help him abreast himself with the job in his departments here in the western region and should equally help him to know the challenges confronting his staff as well as their successes.
