ZFK Minsk’s Ghanaian duo, Faustina Ampah and Ernestina Abambila will be seeking to ink their names in the history books of Ghana’s Women Football when they take to the field on Wednesday, October 4 to engage Czech Republic side, Slavia Praha in the round of 32 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
The game which will be played at the ZFK Minsk Stadion will usher the two who played for Ghana in the 2016 FIFA Women’s Youth World Cup in Papua New Guinea another chance to extend the record of participation in the tournament.
Center back Faustina Ampah ensured the Belarusian side advanced from the group stage without a ball to their net, already scoring 13 times; Ernestina Abambila, the right winger against Slovenia’s Ljubiljana powered in the first from a Ghanaian in the UWCL 2017-18 season – the game ended 5:0.
After securing the Belarusian Women’s League title last Sunday, October 1, the two have full sight on the October UWCL two legged tie with their Czech Republican counterparts – again there are some Belarusian Cup games before shutting the curtains on the season.
The two invited to Ghana’s Senior Women team’s camp for the first time this October against France in an interview with George Nitro Duah claim they are steadily breathing in and bidding for the best as time travels.
“It’s such an honour to compete in the UWCL as a young player, I always think of competing at the top level. I will approach every game at a time and tomorrow’s game is no different.” – 18-year-old Ernestina Abambila
Faustina Ampah, formerly of Ghana’s Blessed Ladies, started and finished all three group stage games and helped to the unbleached defence in the competition thus far claimed – “everything is happening to me like a dream. It’s a dream come true actually, but once the dream is achieved, then you have to aim at something farther – in all of this, I don’t want to think about it too much, because it can also make you feel tense.” – Faustina Ampah
ZFK Minsk will host the first leg of the home and away encounter tomorrow, Wednesday, October 4 at exactly 3:30PM Ghana local time with the return encounter scheduled for October 11.
