Kumasi Asante Kotoko skipper, Amos Frimpong’s late spot kick hands Asante Kotoko a vital 2:1 victory against Division One League side NEA Salamina in the quarter finals stage of the MTN FA Cup at the Baba Yara Stadium.
A real scare by the Zone 1 division one league side was duly avoided by the Porcupines – courtesy goals from Saddick Adams and Amos Frimpongs which means Kotoko now has a place in the semifinals of the second most cherished competition in the country.
The Reds dictated the pace of the game usually via the promptings of midfield duo Jackson Owusu and Emmanuel Gyamfi. A product of the early dominance was a 16 minute strike from newly acquired Saddick Adams connecting Kwame Boahene’s pass beautifully, his first in the competition.
The visitors reacted and Obeng Junior, who was the brightest spot for Nea Salamina pulled parity for the visitors in the 32ndminute.
Kotoko in the second half struggled to find the back of the net despite enjoying possession, however the Porcupine Warriors had to rely on a late penalty call by center referee Nuhu Liman after a foul on striker Yakubu Mohammed in the 18-yard box.
Skipper Amos Frimpong took the mantle upon himself by converting to snatch victory for the former Champions who now joins the likes of Hearts of Oak, Medeama and WA All Stars in the semi-finals of the competition.
