Residents of Kansarodo in the Essikado-Keten sub-metro of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly have gone wild after hearing that some thirty one thousand Ghana cedis allocated for the evacuation of a heap of refuse that was sitting in the heart of community had gone missing.
The rumour that had been circulating on the corridors of the Assembly for weeks was finally confirmed by the Metropolitan Chief Executive of STMA, Anthony Kobina K. Sam during a community engagement at Mampong on Tuesday August 19, 2019.
Outlining some interventions made by the Assembly for the Kansarodo electoral area, the MCE stated that “the Assembly approved an amount of GHc31,000 through the Waste Management Department for the evacuation of a heap of refuse that was sitting in Kansarodo. Today, we can see that mountain of refuse posing serious environmental threat to residents here have been evacuated and the area is now habitable” the mayor lamented.
This sparked a lot of anger among residents knowing too well the Unit Committee and Assemblyman levied them to generate the money used in evacuating the said refuse from the area.
The Assemblyman, Hon Adams and his Unit Committee members who were in the meeting sought to correct the MCE that the statement is untrue but the Mayor was sure he signed that money to be released for work some months ago and he has received pictures and videos to that effect that the work has been done duly.
Speaking to Bro Nat the host of Adzekye Mu Nsem on Spice 91.9 FM in Takoradi, the Assemblyman for Kansarodo electoral area Hon Adams said that they (the Kansarodo community) spent four thousand five hundred Ghana cedis (GHc4,500) on the evacuation of the refuse from the hearts of the community; and that it was a community self initiated project and they did not receive a dime from the Assembly.
“I personally informed the Director, Waste Management Department of the STMA Mr Jonas Duneebon of the intended evacuation so I pleaded with him if he could ask any of his officers to come activities to come but fortunately for us the director came himself. Take it from me anyone who says the Assembly gave us money for this evacuation is a lier, maybe they are yet to refund our money to us.” he said.
Meanwhile, the office of the Waste Management Department in STMA have been silent on the issue, attempts by spicefmonline.com to get their side of the story has not materialized.
