Spicefmonline.com can report that the two Canadians who were kidnapped last week have been rescued in Kumasi by a police SWAT team.
The Canadians have been transported to Accra, while two individuals are being held over the crime.
Lauren Patricia Catherine Tilley, 19, and Bailey Jordan Chitly, 20, were rescued last night in Sawaba, a suburb of Kumasi.
A statement released by the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, on Wednesday morning revealed that the rescue operation was carried out by National Security Operatives in the early hours of Wednesday, June 12, 2019.
“Details of the operation and ongoing efforts to ensure that similar incidents are successfully resolved will be made available in a subsequent press briefing scheduled for 15:00 hours today [Wednesday].
“Government continues to encourage the media and commentators to be circumspect in public commentary on security matters in order not to compromise other related operations,” the statement urged.
The rescue operations comes after the Canadian authorities reportedly sent men to assist their Ghanaian counterpart with investigations into the kidnapping.
It is gathered that the driver of the vehicle used for the kidnapping who is a mechanic and one other person have since been arrested and are assisting the security agencies to unravel the identity of the others.
Our source reveal that the two victims are safe. It would be recalled that two Canadians aged 19 and 20 respectively were kidnapped in the Ashanti Regional Capital of Kumasi last week.
The Ghana Police Service in a statement signed by Director of Public Affairs ACP David Klu revealed that the incident happened at Ahodwo, Kumasi Royal Golf Club, at 8.25pm on 4 June 2019.
