Two days of continuous rain in the Western Regional capital, Sekondi-Takoradi resulted in the total power outage that hit the Twin City Friday evening according to the PDS.
The Power Distribution Service (PDS’) substation in Takoradi which supplies power to most parts of Takoradi, Tanokrom, Kwesimintsim and adjourning communities got flooded forcing the company to switch off its equipment to protect the facility.
Management sources close to spicefmonline.com says the move is part of measures to protect life and property, and that the substation has been switched off till the situation is brought under control.
The flooding also resulted in heavy vehicular traffic in the city and in some cases resulted in the complete halt of vehicular movement.
The city authorities say some bridges and culverts in some communities have submerged while on the Atlantic Hotel and Shippers Roundabout, an uprooted tree blocked the road.
The major roads in the twin city witnessed a heavy traffic while PDS worker tried to restore power to residents of Sekondi-Takoradi and Effia-Kwesimintsim respectively.
