GHANAIANS URGED TO EMULATE THE BIG SIX

As Ghana Marks 62nd Independence Day anniversary, under the theme CELEBRATING PEACE AND UNITY which runs through the whole year. The immediate past western regional minister who is the member of parliament for Sefwi Wiawso Constituency Dr. Kweku Affiyie has called on Ghanaians to exhibit traits of patriotism for the onward development of mother Ghana.

Addressing dignitaries, traditional rulers, parade contingents, students, teachers and some Ghanaians who trooped to the Takoradi Jubilee grounds yesterday March 6th to witness the 62th independence day parade, Dr. Kweku Afriyie mentioned the theme for the 62nd anniversary was timely because love for one another has waxed cold among many Ghanaians this he said “has paved a way for intolerance to crept into our society much that citizens don’t see themselves as such but rather kill mother Ghana with our actions and in actions,” he stressed.

According to him, Ghana had her independence from the British through a relentless efforts from Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Dr. J. B. Danquah, Ako Adjei, Obetsibi Lamptey, Edward Akuffo Addo  and William Ofori Atta generally referred to as the Big Six.

“The attainment of Independence would not have been complete without mentioning the afore-mentioned heroes who toiled for Ghana’s freedom from our colonial masters”.

The Sefwi Wiawso Member of Parliament, Dr Kweku Afriyie stated that “holding each other in dignity will go a long way to knit Ghanaians as one people.”

He however appealed to Ghanaians to be tolerant by respecting each other’s views and personality.

He equally urged the youth not to allow themselves to be lured into vigilantism but “expressing love, peace and unity among every citizen can make a difference in the communities no matter our political affiliations” he said.
