In a bid to deepen relationship between the citizenry and government and also enhance accountability and transparency in governance processes, the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has hinted that “it shall in 2019 introduce a platform dubbed “GovChat”.
In an exclusive chart with Kojo Ennimil Arthur, the Mayor for Sekondi-Takoradi Anthony K.K Sam disclosed that the platform which was launched in South Africa in September this year, and for which per a memorandum of understanding between the developer and the assembly shall be provided freely to the assembly for use to be improve governance in the metropolis.
“GovChat is now the offiial largest civic engagement platform of the South African Government, launched in September, 2018. The CEO, Eldrid Jordan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Assembly to develop and launch this noble initiative at no cost to the assembly”, he said.
Mr K.K Sam mentioned that the platform will be integrated into Whatsapp, and will be accessible online and on any mobile handset, allowing every citizen connect with government.
GovChat, is an online platform which provides the citizenry the opportunity to engage and seek response from state actors at the local assembly in real time.
The initiative is birth from an international governance project; Open Governance Project, being implemented by the STMA.
