WR: Youth set house ablaze over chieftaincy dispute in Apremdo

The celebration of this year’s Kundum festival by the people of Apremdo, a suburb of Kwesimintsim in the newly created Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA) in the Western Region turned bloody Wednesday when youth groups belonging to different chieftaincy factions clashed.

The fierce clash which occurred at about 7pm led to the burning of some houses whiles others are reported to have suffered from acid burns.

Apremdo is a Divisional Council under the Ahanta Traditional Council at Dixcove; the community has been battling with Chieftaincy crisis over the last 20 years specifically between the factions of the Chief, Nana Egya Kwamena XI and the Queen Mother, Nana Mozu VIII of Apremdo.

Each faction clam the other has been distooled so do not have the locus to preform any traditional mandate in the area.

On Wednesday, 27th September 2018 confusion ensude between the two factions at the climax of this year’s Kundum festival which let to the burning down of some houses while other persons involved in the clash suffered from various degrees of injuries including acid burns.

But for the timely intervention of the police it’s would have dreadfully deadly.

Speaking to the spicefmonline.com the Kwesimintsim District Police command Superintendent Peter K. Addo confirmed that nine persons have been arrested in connection with the violence unrest.

The arrested persons include; Kofi Arhin 21, Edward Johnson 21, Evans Amoah 30, Solomon Wuru 50, Jona Odum 25, Joseph Essien 43, John Baidoo 47, David Osei Yalley 24 and John Banasco 35, he said.

Meanwhile the police has retrieve daggers, machetes and a talisman from them some of arrested youth.
