STMA PAYS GH¢56,443.88 AS SEVERANCE PACKAGES TO LAID OFF STAFF

The Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) through a staff rationalization exercise which was 28 workers of the assembly laid off between July and August 2018 is said to have yielded some positive results.

Addressing the second ordinary meeting of the third session of STMA Wednesday morning, the Mayor of the city, Anthony Kobina Korantsir Sam revealed that the assembly as at September this year has recouped a handful of their internal generated funds (IGF) through the rationalization exercise to support its spend.

According to him, the assembly is poised to cut down on its previous expenditure from the IGF which went into salaries from GH91,000 per month to GH66,000 per month. By this variation, the assembly is expected to make a value savings of more than twenty thousand each month.

“Prior to the rationalization exercise, the Assembly was paying a total of about GH¢91,000.00 as salaries and overtime allowances a month. I can report that we have made some modest savings, effective September 2018, it will come to about GH¢61,000.00 a month”, he said.

In all, he noted a total of twenty–eight workers of the assembly were laid off in the rationalization exercise.

“At the end of it all twenty-eight members of staff were laid off, a couple of them have been appointed by Local Government Service while some have been posted to the newly created Municipality, Effia Kwesimintsim.”

Meanwhile, the assembly he said “has paid a total amount of GH¢56,443.88 as severance packages to those who were laid off”.

Commenting on the assembly’s revenue mobilization and expenditure, Hon. K.K Sam disclosed that a total of six million, three-hundred and sixteen thousand, eight hundred and three Ghana cedi, thirty-nine pesewas (GH6,316,803.39) have been realized, out of a projected budgetary target of nine million, one hundred and six thousand, nine hundred and eighty-one cedis, forty-four pesewas for the year 2018.

He hinted that due to some cuts in their cash flows from development partners and splitting of the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality, the assembly’s 2019 total budget estimate is pegged at a lower GH 27.2 million as compared to the Gh24.9 this year.

He averred that the Budget Committee, Finance and Administration, and Revenue Mobilization Sub-Committees have proposed certain strategies to help fill the gap caused by the creation of the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality.
