The Western Regional Electoral Commission Director, Mr. Stephen Opoku Mensah has hinted that more than 200 new electoral areas are to be created in the western region to enhance accelerated development and effective administration of the various MMDCE’S.
Currently, the Western Region have five hundred and forty-four (544) Electoral Areas.
At a special stakeholders engagement held in Takoradi, Mr. Opoku Mensah called on Nananom and the citizenry to cooperate with the EC to determine the boundaries of these electoral areas as well as their names and suitable centres of the newly demarcated areas.
He mentioned that out of the six regions soon to be calved out of the existing ones by the end of the year 2018 one new region will be born out of the Western Region whiles nine districts will constitute the proposed Western North Region.
On his part, the National Human Resource Manager of the Electoral Commission Mr. Samuel Badu however called on the public especially stakeholders to support the creation of the new electoral areas and the new regions to bring Development to the doorsteps of the people.
