Employees of MTN Ghana in the Western Region has embarked on a cleanup exercise in the Central Business District (CBD) of Takoradi as part of their ‘21 Days of Yellow Care’ campaign.
Staff of the largest mobile communication network, MTN were yesterday June 20, 2018 spotted on the principal street of Takoradi close to the Kwame Nkrumah roundabout with their wheelbarrows, shovels and rakes clearing weeds along the streets.
According to Nutifafa Ohene, the Acting Regional Senior Manager – South West MTN, the activity forms part of their employee volunteerism campaign in line with the company’s ‘21 Days of Yellow Care’ which this year is being observed under the theme, “Economic Empowerment”.
“Knowing very well we are in the raining season, MTN partnered Zoomlion to desilt various drainages and sweep the streets as well”, he said.
As this year’s theme for the ‘21 Days of Yellow Care’ clearly spells out, MTN in collaboration with the National Broad of Small Scale industry is currently training twenty five (25) unemployed graduates in bee making at the Takoradi Technical University (TTU).
“After the one-week free intensive skill training in bee making, MTN will give beneficiaries start-up kits and the capital to start their small business all aimed at economically empowering the youth thus cutting down our large unemployment rate”, Mr. Nutifafa Ohene told Spicefmonline.
The initiative launched in 2007 is aimed at securing high participation by staff and partners within their local communities.
The objectives of the campaign are to make a visible and sustained contribution to the societies in which the company operates, provide an opportunity for the company’s staff and partners to actively contribuzte to community development and be inspired by giving back.
