Noni is the common name given to the Morinda citrifolia tree, which grows in South East Asia, the Caribbean and Australasia. It’s an evergreen shrub, and all parts of the tree are used in medicines, including the fruit, leaves, stems and flowers.
The fruit itself can be juiced, eaten or used topically and it has some great health benefits. The famous Victoria Secret model Miranda Kerr loves to include noni juice in her healthy diet. Noni juice supplements have received some bad press lately, because some spammers have been claiming that it’s almost the elixir of life, but don’t be put off by that.
As with everything, eaten as a part of a balanced diet, noni juice can have same amazing health benefits and here are ten of those:
Health benefits of noni juice are numerous. Noni juice has both antidepressant and mild sedative properties. The fruit helps to stimulate the production of the mood balancing hormone serotonin along with melatonin, which calms you and helps you get a good night’s sleep.
- Controls hypertension
Another noni juice health benefit is that it can help control hypertension. The juice of the noni fruit contains an amino acid called tryptophan, which helps to promote the production of serotonin which, amongst other things, helps you and your body to relax and so helps to control high blood pressure.
- Noni juice weight loss
Another one of health benefits of noni juice is that it aids weight loss and promotes muscle growth. Drinking noni juice produces nitric oxide in the body, which is used by the muscles to metabolize energy. The effect of this is that nitric oxide is that it takes energy from food and fat deposits to feed the muscles, thus helping you to lose weight, whilst building up muscle mass at the same time.
- Helps to control blood sugar levels
When used in conjunction with insulin treatments, noni juice was found in a research study to assist in controlling the blood sugar levels in diabetics. The fruit contains the compounds triterpenes and saponins, which are known to benefit in this way.

The antioxidants and other nutrients, including vitamin C, found in noni juice, nourish the cells of the body and fight off the effect of free radicals. Drinking the juice is thought to ward of the signs of aging, maintain the elasticity of the skin and add a beautiful healthy glow to your complexion.
- Analgesic properties
Studies have shown that the noni fruit has analgesic properties, comparable with off-the-shelf painkillers. It can be effective in reducing pain for sufferers of arthritis and the noni tree is known, in some quarters, as the painkiller tree.
