June 2018 BECE: STMA to spend GHC74K on two mock exam

Over 6,500 final year students in both Public and Private Junior High Schools in the Sekondi – Takoradi Metropolis on Monday February 12, 2018 begun a mock examination ahead of this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination BECE.

The Metro mock exams is a fulfillment of a pledge made by Sekondi – Takoradi Mayor Anthony KK Sam as part of efforts to improve on the performance of BECE candidates.

The Mayor is partnering the Sekondi – Takoradi Metro Education Directorate to conduct two separate mock examinations at a cost of GHC74, 000.00 to prepare the candidates adequately towards the upcoming BECE examination in June.

A team made up personnel from the STMA and the metro education directorate embarked on a tour of some selected Junior High Schools to monitor the examination.

The team went to St Anthony Junior High School, Ketan Catholic Junior High School, Wesley Methodist Junior High school, Kwesimintim M/A Junior High School.

They are expected to visit other schools before the mock ends on Friday February 16, 2018.

Madam Catherine Biney, PRO for the Metro education directorate, in an interview with Spicefmonline expressed excitements that finally all is set for the mock exams to begin.

Responding to a question on measures the metro education directorate are putting in place to ensure the examination is marked fairly, Mrs. Catherine Biney noted an examining conference will be set up to ensure that the examination is marked fairly.

“We will gather all the markers at one place for them to mark. It is something we are seriously considering”.

Presiding Member of STMA John Davis who was part of the team indicated that the assembly is spending GHC32 per student for the two mock exams while parents pay GHC 5.

“The assembly will sustain this project because when you look at the district league table on education STMA is not doing well. So we are using the examination to challenge ourselves and improve on our standings”.
